The Expo Zaragoza 2008 is an international exhibition under the aegis of the International Exhibition Bureau. Zaragoza 2008 will develop the theme of "Water for Sustainable Development", along 10 main ideas including governability and cooperation.

September 1-4, 2008 : 13th World Water Congress - Global Changes and Water Resources- Montpellier, France

The objective of the 13th World Water Congress is to enhance understanding of the impact of world climate change on water resources and to increase societal consciousness. In line with this objective the Congress will organize numerous debates, oral presentations, and poster sessions on the key issues of water.

September 24-27, 2008 : International Conference : “Pathways towards Sustainable Sanitation in Africa” - Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso

The objective of this conference is to jointly bring together the members of the NETSSAF consortium (Network for the development of Sustainable Approaches for large scale implementation of Sanitation in Africa-sponsored by the European Commission) alongside decision makers, sanitation professionals and practitioners as well as scientists, to present their findings and discuss future directions concerning the development of sustainable approaches for large scale sanitation issues in rural and peri-urban areas.

October 13-19, 2008 : 20th International Congress on Irrigation and Drainage – Lahore, Pakistan

Theme : Participatory Integrated Water Resources Management - From Concepts to Actions. The International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage is an international non-governmental organisation, whose goal is to contribute to meeting world food needs through improved water and soil management and improved productivity of irrigated and drained land.

The World Water Forum, a triennial event, is the largest international event in the field of water. It primarily serves four main purposes :

- To formulate concrete proposals and bring their importance to the world’s attention
- To generate political commitment

19 March 2009 : Conference on "Water saving in irrigated systems in the Mediterranean", 5th World Water Forum - Istanbul (Turkey)

From examples in North Africa and Jordan, speakers will discuss the message that the investment for the modernization of irrigation facilities will be effective if accompanied by support for small and medium scale farmers and their organizations.
