FARM Briefings
Farm briefings present a synthesis of recent studies on a topic chosen by the Foundation.
Briefings currently available address agricultural sectors of particular importance for the economy of Southern countries and that are also the subject of WTO Doha Round negotiations. The four Briefings presented by FARM at the conference "Hong Kong -15 : Small Farmers Speak Out" can be consulted here (in french).
Those on sectorial themes are :
- Cotton : "Cotton : what is at stake for Africa ?", "African cotton after HongKong : a vital but unresolved issue", "Cotton : annex",
- Banana : "The international banana market",
- Sugar : "Towards a new equilibrium for Sugar markets".
Another briefing looks at the mechanisms for Special and Differential Treatment (S&DT— "Traitement Spécial et Différencié en faveur de l’agriculture") as enunciated by the WTO. These policies are intended to provide preferential market access to developing countries without any reciprocity requirements.
